In-home day, night, and live-in support across the East Bay and Tri-Valley
Alameda County is home to one of the most diverse and family-rich regions of the Bay Area — from Berkeley and Oakland in the north through the I-880 corridor cities to the Tri-Valley in the east. Our roots are here. East Bay Postpartum Doula Circle has been supporting Alameda County families since 2001.
Our doulas provide daytime, overnight, and live-in postpartum support throughout Oakland (see Oakland page), Berkeley (Berkeley page), Alameda, Albany, Emeryville, Piedmont, San Leandro, Hayward, Castro Valley, Fremont, Newark, Union City, and the Tri-Valley cities of Pleasanton, Livermore, and Dublin (Tri-Valley page).
Alameda County is the most diverse county in California, and that diversity shows up in every dimension of how families experience the postpartum window. We serve queer families in Oakland and Berkeley, multigenerational households in Fremont, single parents by choice across the county, immigrant families from East and South Asia, Latin America, and East Africa, and tech-employed families combining Maven and Carrot benefits to fund overnight care. Our doula network reflects that diversity — by language, by training, by lived experience.
The county also spans dramatically different geographies. Berkeley and Oakland are urban, walkable, with strong neighborhood identities and a deep history of progressive parent communities. The I-880 corridor cities — Alameda, San Leandro, Hayward, Castro Valley — blend suburban stability with growing diversity. Fremont and Newark anchor the southern county with strong public schools and a large South Asian community. The Tri-Valley (which is also part of Alameda County) brings established suburbs and major employer footprints. We have doulas embedded in each of these communities.
4-6 hour shifts, 2-5 days per week. Common in Oakland, Berkeley, Alameda, and Castro Valley where one parent returns to work and the at-home parent needs hands-on daytime help with breastfeeding, infant care, sibling support, and a knowledgeable second set of hands.
Learn more →8-10 hour overnight shifts, 1-7 nights per week. Highly requested across the county. The doula handles overnight feeds and sleep cycles so parents get 6+ uninterrupted hours.
Learn more →Multi-day or multi-week continuous care. Common for families with twins, NICU graduates, families without local family support, or where both parents need to return to work quickly.
Learn more →Every shift includes infant care (feeding, burping, diapering, soothing, swaddling), breastfeeding and lactation support, bottle-feeding support, newborn observation, sleep hygiene coaching, sibling support, light meal preparation, light tidying of baby spaces, emotional support and listening, and referrals to IBCLCs, pelvic floor PT, and perinatal mental health providers when needed.
We don't diagnose, prescribe, or replace your medical team. We complement your pediatrician, midwife, and OB with practical day-to-day support.
Alameda County rates typically run $45-$65/hour daytime and $50-$75/hour overnight. Common packages:
Carrot, Maven, and Progyny benefits plus HSA/FSA dollars can substantially offset these costs. We'll help you understand what your plan covers and connect you with a doula who works with it.
