In-home day and night support across San Jose, Palo Alto, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, and Silicon Valley
The South Bay's families face a particular set of postpartum realities — long commutes, demanding tech-industry roles, family far from home, and the expectation to "bounce back" to work within weeks. The East Bay Postpartum Doula Circle has been supporting South Bay families since 2001, providing hands-on in-home care that lets new parents actually rest, recover, and bond with their baby without trying to do it all alone.
Our doulas serve families from San Jose and Santa Clara through Mountain View, Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Los Gatos, and the surrounding Silicon Valley communities. Whether you've just come home from Stanford, Lucile Packard, Good Samaritan, or El Camino, we coordinate the transition and provide the daily support that turns the first weeks at home from overwhelming into manageable.
Our doulas regularly coordinate hospital-to-home transition support for families discharging from the South Bay's leading maternity hospitals:
Many South Bay employers offer family-benefits programs that cover doula support. We accept:
We've seen many South Bay families combine employer benefits + HSA to cover the full cost of overnight or daytime doula support — talk to us about how to maximize your coverage.
Becoming a parent in Silicon Valley comes with a particular set of pressures. The same drive that gets you to senior IC or VP comes home with you — and suddenly that drive collides with sleep deprivation, learning to breastfeed a baby who has opinions, and the realization that your normally crisp executive function is replaced by exhausted decision fatigue. Many of our South Bay clients are first-time parents in their late 30s or early 40s, often with family thousands of miles away — Boston, India, China, the East Coast — and partners returning to demanding tech roles within 2-12 weeks of birth.
Our doulas understand this context. We've supported engineering leads at Apple and Google through their first three weeks home. We've helped pediatric clients of Lucile Packard's NICU adjust to home care. We've worked with biotech researchers from Stanford and Genentech who need to be functional enough to read papers at 3 a.m. when the baby's fed. The South Bay version of postpartum support means showing up consistently, professionally, and with the kind of evidence-based answers that resonate with technical parents who want to understand the "why" behind every recommendation.
We're also conscious of the cultural diversity across the South Bay. Our doulas have experience with confinement traditions across Chinese, Indian, Filipino, Mexican, and Vietnamese cultures, and we adapt food preparation, postpartum recovery practices, and family-of-origin involvement to fit your family's traditions. If you're observing a culturally-specific postpartum period — zuo yuezi, the 40-day cuarentena, jaappa, or others — let us know and we'll match you with a doula who can support those practices.
Typically 4-6 hour shifts during the day, 2-5 days per week. Best for South Bay families where a partner returns to work in the office or on-site at Apple Park, Googleplex, or NVIDIA's Santa Clara campus, and the at-home parent needs hands-on help: breastfeeding support, baby care so the parent can nap or shower, sibling care if there's a toddler, meal prep, light tidying. Many South Bay families layer daytime doula support on top of partner parental leave to ease the partner's return to work.
Learn more about daytime support →Typically 8-10 hour overnight shifts, 1-7 nights per week. Our doulas take overnight infant care so parents can sleep — handling feedings (bringing baby to a breastfeeding parent for nursing, then handling diaper, burp, and re-settle), supporting bottle-fed feeds, observing for any signs that need medical attention, and maintaining sleep hygiene routines. Overnight support is the single most common request from South Bay families because both parents are often returning to demanding roles within weeks. Investing in 2-3 overnight shifts a week often saves marriages and careers.
Learn more about overnight support →A doula who stays in your home for multi-day or multi-week stretches, providing continuous overnight infant care and daytime hands-on help. Especially relevant for South Bay families when family-of-origin is far away or unavailable to travel, when both parents need to return to work quickly, when twins or higher-order multiples are involved, or when there's a medical complication that requires extra continuous care. Some South Bay clients use live-in for the first 2 weeks home, then transition to overnight-only.

Our doulas do not diagnose medical conditions, prescribe medications, or replace your pediatrician, midwife, or OB. We're a complement to your medical team, focused on the practical, hands-on, day-to-day support that makes recovery and bonding possible.
Postpartum doula rates in the South Bay typically range from $45-$65 per hour for daytime shifts and $50-$75 per hour for overnight shifts, depending on the doula's certification level, experience, languages spoken, and specialty training (twins, NICU graduates, perinatal mood). Live-in rates are typically calculated as daily rates with separate ranges depending on shift coverage and on-call expectations.
Most South Bay families plan for one of these common configurations:
With Carrot, Maven, or Progyny benefits, families commonly offset $5,000-$15,000 of these costs depending on the specific plan. We can help you calculate exactly what your benefits cover before you commit. Many South Bay families also use a combination of HSA/FSA dollars to cover the remainder.
